What is a Teacher License?
The Teacher License allows teachers and educational leaders to practice their profession in the education sector by two main assessments: an educational practices test, as well as a subject specialization exam. It is mandatory for all teachers to obtain the Teacher License by 2021, in order to raise the level and quality of education in the UAE.
Why do Teachers need to be Licensed?
The initiative is led by the government of the United Arab Emirates with the aim of setting a higher standard of performance based on international standards for teachers in the education sector. This will allow the continuous development of each teacher’s capabilities, as well as the profession as a whole, and also shed a light on distinguished teachers in the sector.
How do I apply for a Teacher License?
Registration will be announced and an electronic email will be sent to a targeted group of teachers based on educational cycles. Teachers will create a profile and subsequently receive a notification when examination registration opens. The teacher shall be assigned an examination date and location within a set time-frame. After reviewing all answers, results will be sent which inform the teacher as to whether they passed, and if not, what further training shall be required.
What assessments are required to obtain the Teacher License?
Each teacher will need to pass two assessments: 1) An educational practices test, which relates to teaching pedagogy in general; 2) A subject specialization exam, which deals with the general content of the courses to be taught.
How will I be notified of my assessment results?
The results of the assessments will be sent to your registered email account.
What happens if I do not pass the assessments or have not yet enrolled for an assessment?
Teachers will be given the opportunity to redo any failed assessment, during a 24 month period.
How long do I have to get my License?
Teachers must complete their licensure procedures by no later than end of 2020.
What about non-Nationals that have a Teacher License from another country?
The Teacher License Permit will be reviewed by a committee to check whether his license meets the requirements for equalization. Equalization requirements will be announced soon.
